Servant Leadership(Peter)

Post by andrew mochama on Wed May 10, 2017 10:41 pm

_Sabbath School Summary_
*Servant Leadership*
_Lesson 7_
_Memory Text: 1 Peter 5:7_

*SATURDAY*: In this times of great crisis, God has appointed many to bear the duty of leadership of His church. "This leadership takes its vision from God and His Word" and give a chance for church members to put into play their own spiritual gifts to aid in the "gospel commission". Who then qualifies to be a leader? 1 Peter 5:1-10 tackles issues of church leadership mostly at the time the church faced persecution.

*SUNDAY*: Elders in the early church had a heavy role to play. They acted as teachers of new converts and leaders of the church. God's "church on earth is composed of erring men and women, who need patient" and training for them to be fit to meet their Saviour (Acts 6:1-6, 14:23, 15:6, 1 Tim. 5:17, 1 Pet. 5:2). The early church though filled with the Holy Spirit needed leaders to manage it, hence we need leaders as well.

*MONDAY*: An elder is like a shepherd tending the flock of God. He is a "burden bearer" who shares in the afflictions of the flock and has humility (1 Pet. 5:1-4). By Peter, an elder should understand what Christ suffered for us and the hope He offers. The elder is to guide the church such that no soul is lost and must long to recover any lost soul (Jer. 10:21, Ezek. 34:8-10, Zech. 11:17). We must accept to be church leaders.

*TUESDAY*: Self-sacrifice, self-denial and total surrender to God are the hallmarks of the leader in Christ (1 Pet. 5:3). In the school of Christ, we are to serve as leaders. Christ was a servant to all. We are not to lord over others as leaders. Christ revealed to James and John that those who are fit to enter His kingdom must be ready to serve just as He served (Matt. 20:24-28, D.A pg. 548). Peter bids us all to serve as well.

*WEDNESDAY*: We are to cloth ourselves with humility. Real humility has in it the simplicity of a little child and God "selects the humblest instrument to do the greatest work" (Prov. 3:34, Jam. 4:6, Isa. 13:11, 23:9, Job 49:11). "Humility" in ancient times meant being in a lower rank (slave), and in Greek it meant being "poor" or "weak" or "lowly". Peter bids us to be humble to all, even to those below us (1 Pet. 5:5-7).

*THURSDAY*: The early church faced the results of the great conflict in their lives, and it was not just an "abstract theology" (1 Pet. 5:8-10, Rev. 12:7-9). Satan's rebellion in heaven led to the fall of mighty angels and he's working through evil forces to cause the fall of men. Though God will ultimately destroy Satan, he is a danger to those who accepts him. But in Christ we have hope (1 Pet. 5:10, Heb. 11:13-16).

*FRIDAY*: Jesus by washing the feet of the disciples laid down the principle, humility, by which all souls were to enter heaven (Jn. 13:1, 14, 15). The disciples were thought to be least to be great, to be humble to be exalted, and Peter echoed this lesson to his readers. Divinity becoming humanity reveals to all the humble nature of Christ. He laid aside "His royal robe, His kingly crown, His high command" and became man.

-Ellen G. White, Sons and Daughters of God, p. 81.

SEEN, talking of love, only experienced personnels in the field can testify the core content of the package. Love is the sovereign preference of the soul.
